On October 8, Fleming Island High school hosted its annual marching band competition, Golden Eagle Classic (GEC). From the event, audiences got to see a wide range of talent from many different schools.

Highlights:

• University High School made it to finals and scored the highest (77.5 points)
• Oakleaf’s marching band followed with a score of 76.3 points
• Buchholz’s marching band had a score of 73.2
• The voted Fan favorite was Orange Park High School Raider Band
• Sandalwood High School had a very memorable Wizard of Oz themed show that included the wicked witch and her monkeys coming in on bicycles
• At some point during the night, audiences sitting in the stadium across turned on their flashlights and performed a little “show”
• When the song “Happy” by Pharrell Williams began to play, the entire stadium started to clap together

Overall, the event was densely packed with supporters from all schools. Each of the marching shows were very unique and showcased how hard those bands worked.
