Target Shoplifting Spree Turns Into Stolen Car Chase From Mansfield to Dallas

MANSFIELD, TX — A high-tech police drone helped unravel an organized retail theft operation on Monday after three suspects allegedly shoplifted from a North Texas Target, fled in a stolen vehicle, and led officers on a multi-city car chase that ended in a crash on Interstate 20.

The Mansfield Police Department confirmed that all three suspects—all over the age of 60—are now in custody at the Mansfield Jail, facing multiple felony charges.

High-Tech Tracking: The Drone First Responder Advantage

The incident began at 3:02 PM on Monday, June 8, 2026, when store security at the Target located at 1801 North U.S. 287 Frontage Road in Mansfield reported an active shoplifting incident.

As the caller described the suspects’ getaway vehicle, Mansfield police immediately deployed an unmanned aerial vehicle via their Drone First Responder program. The drone quickly located the vehicle and scanned the license plate, revealing that the car had been reported stolen out of Richardson earlier that morning.

The Pursuit and Highway Crash

When marked police units arrived at the Target parking lot, the suspects slammed on the gas. A pursuit ensued, stretching from Mansfield all the way into Dallas.

The chase came to an abrupt halt on the 3900 block of Interstate 20 when the driver of the stolen vehicle lost control and slammed into a white Chevrolet Suburban parked on the shoulder. Miraculously, the occupants of the Suburban had been involved in a minor fender-bender moments earlier and were already outside the vehicle exchanging insurance information when the impact occurred.

Mansfield officials confirmed that no injuries were reported from the high-speed collision.

No Honor Among Thieves: Suspect Left Behind

As police sorted through the wreckage and the initial crime scene, they discovered that one of the suspects hadn’t even made it to the getaway car:

  • The Drivers: Nelson Murray (65) and Willie McNealy (62) fled the Target parking lot, completely abandoning their alleged accomplice. Murray was hit with the heaviest charges, including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest.
  • The Abandoned Partner: Erwin Roland (63) was left stranded at the store by his partners. Officers arrested him on-site and recovered $383.91 worth of stolen merchandise directly from his person.

An additional $1,192.63 in stolen retail items was pulled from the trunk of the crashed vehicle, bringing the total haul to over $1,500.
