Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for South Florida as Damaging Winds and Hail Sweep Through Region

Kendall, Florida — Residents across portions of South Florida were urged to remain alert Tuesday afternoon as a severe thunderstorm moved through the region, bringing strong winds, hail and heavy rain.

Weather officials issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Miami-Dade County as the storm tracked northeast across several communities.

Damaging Winds and Hail Reported in Miami-Dade County

According to weather officials, the storm developed over western Miami-Dade County and initially produced damaging winds of up to 60 mph, along with hail.

While wind speeds later weakened to approximately 30 mph, forecasters continued to monitor the system as it moved across populated areas.

The combination of strong wind gusts and hail created potentially dangerous conditions for drivers, outdoor activities and unsecured property.

Residents were encouraged to seek shelter indoors and remain aware of changing weather conditions throughout the afternoon.

Storm Moves Across Several South Florida Communities

Meteorologists reported that the thunderstorm moved northeast from the Kendall area and impacted multiple communities across Miami-Dade County.

Areas affected by the storm included:

  • Coral Gables
  • Sweetwater
  • Westchester
  • Doral
  • Hialeah Gardens

The storm brought periods of heavy rainfall and reduced visibility in several locations as it continued its path through the region.

Officials reminded motorists to exercise caution on wet roadways and avoid driving through flooded streets.

Weather Alerts Extended Into Broward County

The severe weather threat was not limited to Miami-Dade County.

In neighboring Broward County, a special weather statement was issued for portions of the area as storm activity approached.

Communities included in the advisory were:

  • Pembroke Pines
  • Miramar

While these areas were not under the severe thunderstorm warning itself, weather officials warned residents to remain prepared for strong winds, lightning and brief heavy rainfall.

More Rain and Hazardous Marine Conditions Expected

The weather system is expected to continue affecting South Florida beyond Tuesday afternoon.
