Cielito Lindo, the iconic Olvera Street eatery known for its hand-rolled taquitos topped with avocado sauce, has launched a public fundraising effort after financial pressures forced the business into a temporary closure.

The restaurant was founded in 1934 by Aurora Guerrero, a single immigrant mother from Zacatecas, Mexico, who built the business into a cherished Los Angeles institution.
Over the years, the stand has remained family-owned and operated, passing through multiple generations.
Today, the restaurant is managed by Guerrero’s fourth-generation granddaughters, who continue carrying on the family tradition while preserving one of Olvera Street’s most recognizable landmarks.
The restaurant’s longevity has made it a cultural fixture for both local residents and tourists visiting downtown Los Angeles.
Owners Hope to Reopen Soon
Despite the financial difficulties, the family says it remains committed to reopening once repairs are completed.
The restaurant plans to return with updated menu pricing and potentially new specials aimed at helping sustain operations moving forward.
Owners also addressed recent confusion online involving unrelated restaurants with similar names, emphasizing that Cielito Lindo remains an independent, family-run business with no affiliation to those establishments.
