Brooklyn, New York — A 75-year-old woman survived a terrifying daylight attack in Brooklyn after a man allegedly stabbed her in the neck while she waited for an Uber, according to police.

Authorities say the attack appeared to be random and unfolded within moments of a brief interaction between the suspect and the victim.

Elderly Woman Attacked While Waiting for Ride

The incident occurred at approximately 11:25 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Glenmore and Christopher avenues in Brownsville.

According to police and law enforcement sources, the woman was standing outside waiting for an Uber when a man later identified as 36-year-old Shawnee Moore approached her.

Authorities say Moore greeted the woman before the violent assault began. Sources said the suspect allegedly uttered “hello” to the victim moments before attacking her.

Investigators allege Moore then struck the woman with a stick before escalating the assault.

Victim Stabbed in the Neck

Police say the suspect allegedly stabbed the elderly woman in the neck using a knife.

The sudden attack left the victim seriously injured and in need of emergency medical treatment. First responders arrived at the scene and transported the woman to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center.

Despite the severity of the assault, authorities said she was listed in stable condition, offering hope for her recovery. Officials have not released additional information regarding the extent of her injuries.

Witness Helps Police Locate Suspect

Following the attack, officers launched an immediate search for the suspect. Authorities said a witness who observed the incident played a key role in helping police identify and locate Moore shortly after the assault.

Police arrested the suspect a short time later without further incident.

Following his arrest, Moore was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person.

The case remains under investigation as prosecutors review the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Suspect Has Prior Arrest History

According to police, Moore has a criminal history that includes multiple prior arrests.

Authorities said he was arrested in November 2025 after allegedly appearing at a stranger’s Brooklyn residence in violation of an order of protection.

Investigators also pointed to an earlier incident in September 2025, in which Moore allegedly attacked another stranger inside a nail salon.

Police said he allegedly sprayed hairspray onto a 52-year-old man, igniting a fire that burned the victim’s face. Sources indicated that assault also appeared to be random and unprovoked.

His earliest reported arrest dates back to May 2014, when police charged him with gun and drug possession in Brooklyn.

Community Concerned After Another Random Attack

The latest incident has raised concerns among residents about random acts of violence targeting innocent people in public spaces.

The fact that the victim was simply waiting for transportation when the attack occurred has left many community members shaken. Authorities have not announced whether additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
