DeLand, Florida — A Florida woman is facing a serious felony charge after authorities say her 3-year-old child was left alone in a vehicle for approximately two hours, resulting in a medical emergency that left the child hospitalized in critical condition.
The incident occurred on May 31 in DeLand, where emergency responders rushed to save the toddler after concerned individuals discovered the child unresponsive inside a parked vehicle.
Child Found in Critical Condition
According to the DeLand Police Department, officers responded after receiving reports involving a young child left unattended inside a car.
Investigators allege that 27-year-old Latana Williams left her child alone in the vehicle while she went to donate plasma.
Authorities said the child remained inside the car for roughly two hours before the emergency was discovered. When first responders arrived, they found a witness already attempting lifesaving measures.
“The DeLand Fire Department and Volusia County Fire Rescue responded to the scene, where a witness had already begun administering CPR prior to the arrival of first responders,” the police department said in a press release.
Emergency Crews Rush Child to Hospital
Rescue personnel immediately took over medical care and transported the child for emergency treatment. According to authorities, the toddler was in critical condition when taken from the scene.
“The child was transported by ground to a local hospital in critical condition,” officials stated.
Police have not released additional details regarding the child’s specific injuries, but authorities later indicated that medical personnel were optimistic about the child’s recovery.

Mother Arrested and Charged

“Give yourself enough time when you’re traveling so you’re not in a rush when you arrive at your destination.”
