Bakersfield, California — A California family is searching for answers after doorbell camera footage appeared to capture a delivery driver picking up their pet cat and walking away with her during a routine package drop-off.
The unusual incident has sparked outrage online and prompted a police investigation after the family’s beloved cat, Junie, failed to return home.
Doorbell Camera Captures Unusual Encounter
According to the family, the incident occurred outside their Bakersfield home while a delivery driver was dropping off a package.
Ring camera footage later reviewed by the family appeared to show the driver completing the delivery before approaching Junie, who was sitting outside the residence.
Moments later, the driver allegedly picked up the cat and walked away with her.
The footage quickly gained attention after it was shared on social media, with many viewers expressing shock over what appeared to happen.
Family Left in Shock After Cat Disappears
Junie’s owner, Brenda Wilson, said she was stunned after seeing the video and realizing her cat was missing.
“Utter disbelief … that anybody would have the nerve to do that. I’m just shocked,” Wilson told a local news outlet.
Wilson said Junie has always been friendly and calm around people, which may have made it easier for someone to approach her.
“Maybe he just really thought she was the most chill cat ever, and was just like, ‘hey, let me test it,’” Wilson said. “He kind of made a sound to her, and you can see that as he got closer, she meowed at him and was like, stranger danger … I kind of wish she fought back. But that’s just not really in her nature.”
The family says Junie has been part of their household for years and is deeply loved.
Owner Believes Cat Could Find Her Way Home
Wilson said Junie is familiar with the neighborhood and knows how to return home if given the chance.
“They could just drop her off in the driveway,” Wilson said. “She knows what to do. She’ll come straight to the garage, get inside the house, and do what she has to do.”
The family remains hopeful that whoever has the cat will return her safely.
In a separate social media post, Wilson stated that the family has owned Junie since 2022 and can provide numerous photographs proving ownership, including pictures of the cat with her kittens.
Police Launch Investigation
After Junie disappeared, Wilson filed a report with local authorities.
According to reports, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that investigators are treating the case as an apparent “theft of a cat.”
Officials have not announced any arrests or released additional details regarding the ongoing investigation.
The case has drawn significant attention from animal lovers and community members hoping for Junie’s safe return.
Amazon Responds to Incident
Wilson told local media she was informed that the individual seen in the footage was not directly employed by Amazon.
An Amazon spokesperson addressed the situation in a statement.
“The driver works for a Delivery Service Partner, which are small businesses that deliver packages to customers,” the spokesperson said. “We’re looking into it and working with law enforcement as they investigate.”
Amazon has not released further information regarding the driver involved or any potential disciplinary action.
As the investigation continues, the family says their main concern is simply getting Junie back home safely.
