Kennedy Township, Pennsylvania — A tiny kitten is lucky to be alive after surviving an incredible road trip hidden inside the grill of a moving vehicle for more than 100 miles across Pennsylvania.
The surprising discovery prompted an unusual rescue response from local police officers and road department workers after the unsuspecting driver finally realized something was wrong the next morning.
Kitten Discovered Hidden Inside Vehicle
According to the Kennedy Township Police Department, officers received an unusual call on May 26 involving a baby kitten trapped inside the grill of a resident’s car.
“This morning, our police department received an unusual call: a baby kitten was found stuck in the grill of a resident’s car in Kennedy Highlands,” the department said in a statement shared on Facebook.
Photos released by authorities showed officers and road workers gathered around the parked vehicle in a residential driveway as they worked carefully to rescue the frightened animal.
One officer held a pet carrier nearby while others reached beneath the car to safely remove the kitten.
Surprise Passenger Survived Long Journey
Authorities said the driver had no idea the kitten had climbed into the vehicle while he was stopped in Breezewood, Pennsylvania.
“Unbeknownst to the driver, the kitten had climbed into the grill while he was in Breezewood and made the entire trip home tucked inside,” the police department explained.
According to reports, the driver had been traveling from Maryland and drove more than 100 miles through Pennsylvania before arriving home in Kennedy Township.
Police Chief Anthony Bruni later said the motorist had briefly stopped for food in Breezewood before continuing his drive.
Driver Initially Thought Kitten Had Wandered Away
As incredible as the journey already was, the driver reportedly didn’t realize the kitten was trapped inside the car until the following morning when he heard meowing coming from outside.
Chief Bruni said several people had actually warned the driver earlier that a kitten had been seen near his car during the stop in Breezewood.
“Several individuals gathered around his car and advised him that a cat had walked under his car, a kitten,” Bruni told. “He looked under his car, he checked around, he didn’t see any cats. He figured the kitten had probably just wandered away.”

Thankfully, despite the dangerous trip hidden inside the moving vehicle, the kitten survived without serious injury.
Rescue Team Safely Frees Tiny Traveler
Police officers, along with local road department workers Jim Gallagher and Todd Castlevetter, carefully worked together to rescue the animal from inside the vehicle.
“The little traveler was safely rescued,” the department said. “A big thank-you to everyone involved for their care and effort.”
A second photo shared by police showed the kitten curled up safely inside a pet carrier after being freed from the car.
Kitten Given Adorable New Name
Since the rescue, the kitten has reportedly been placed in the care of the driver’s next-door neighbor, who is currently fostering the animal and may eventually put it up for adoption.
The kitten has also received an adorable name inspired by the location where the unexpected journey began.
“Breezy, after Breezewood,” Bruni told with a laugh.
The heartwarming rescue story quickly gained attention online, with many social media users amazed that such a small kitten survived the dangerous interstate journey.
