5-Year-Old Kindergartener Dies After Playground Fall Leaves Connecticut Community Heartbroken

Harwinton, Connecticut — A Connecticut community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of a 5-year-old girl who died after suffering a serious head injury in what authorities describe as a tragic playground accident.

The child, identified as Olivia Videtto, was a kindergartener at Harwinton Consolidated School and is being remembered by family, friends, classmates and teachers following her sudden death.

Child Injured in Playground Fall

According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday, May 31, at a residence in Harwinton. Authorities said Olivia suffered a severe head injury after falling from a playground structure at the home.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:45 p.m., where they found the child critically injured.

Given the seriousness of the situation, a Life Star helicopter was called to transport Olivia to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for emergency treatment.

Initially, officials described her injuries as “suspected serious, but non life-threatening injuries.” However, despite medical efforts, Olivia later died from her injuries.

Community Grieves Loss of Young Student

The tragedy has deeply affected the town of Harwinton and the school community where Olivia attended kindergarten. Local officials expressed sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to her family.

“There are no words that can adequately express the sorrow felt by our community,” Michael R. Criss, First Selectman of the Town of Harwinton, said in a statement.

He continued:

The Connecticut State Police confirmed that an investigation into the incident remains ongoing. However, authorities emphasized that investigators have not found evidence suggesting criminal activity was involved.

In a statement shared with media outlets, police said “nothing criminal has been found.” At this time, no criminal charges have been filed.

Officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances that led to the fall.

Family Requests Privacy During Difficult Time

As the investigation continues, local officials have asked the public to respect the family’s privacy. In a separate update, Criss noted that privacy for Olivia’s loved ones is especially important as they cope with the devastating loss.

“During this very difficult time” the family needs space to grieve, he said.
