Mesquite, Texas — The North Texas entertainment community is mourning the loss of Erick “DJ Avenger” Del Campo, a beloved DJ, husband and father who died following a major crash in Mesquite just hours after reaching one of the biggest milestones of his career.
Friends, family and fellow performers say the 44-year-old entertainer leaves behind a legacy built not only on music but also on kindness, generosity and unwavering devotion to those around him.
DJ Avenger Dies Following Major Crash
According to Mesquite police, Del Campo was involved in a serious crash along U.S. Highway 80 early Saturday morning. Authorities said both Del Campo and another driver were transported to local hospitals following the collision.
Sadly, Del Campo later died from his injuries. Police have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The tragedy has shocked family members and supporters throughout North Texas, many of whom are still struggling to process the sudden loss.
Career Dream Achieved Hours Before Tragedy
Family members said Friday had been one of the proudest days of Del Campo’s professional life.
According to his brother, Mike Del Campo, Erick had just completed his first performance at Globe Life Field, a milestone he had dreamed about for years.
The venue appearance marked another achievement in a successful career that included performances across some of North Texas’ most recognizable locations.
Del Campo was well known for entertaining crowds at Texas Live! in Arlington, working events at the American Airlines Center, and appearing at sporting events and venues throughout the region.
For those closest to him, the fact that the tragedy occurred only hours after such a major accomplishment makes the loss even more difficult to comprehend.
Family and Friends Remember a Genuine Person
Loved ones described Del Campo as someone whose character was every bit as memorable as his talent.
“I can only describe him with one word and that’s genuine,” one friend told WFAA.
Another friend reflected on his willingness to help anyone in need.
“He was the epitome of that guy that would give you the shirt off his back,” the friend said.
His brother also spoke about the role faith played throughout Erick’s life and career.
“He is a God-fearing man, and he applied that to everything he did, and that’s why he was so successful,” Mike Del Campo said.
Remembered as a Dedicated Family Man
While many people knew him as DJ Avenger, friends say his most important role was being a husband, father and brother.
“He was a great, great, great family man,” one friend said. “He was a big family man.”
Family members shared memories of his passion for music, recalling how he spent countless hours practicing and developing his skills from a young age.

“I would be asleep, getting ready for school the next day, and he’d be up having his headphones on and I’d hear the music,” his brother recalled.

Community Honors His Legacy
As tributes continue pouring in, friends say Del Campo’s impact extended far beyond music. Many remembered his energy, humor and ability to make people feel welcome wherever he went.
“I think the word that we can all go to is he was electric,” one friend said. “But I think the one that we all might miss is he was funny.”
A GoFundMe has been established to help support Del Campo’s wife and daughter during this difficult time.
For many who knew him, his legacy will not be defined solely by the stages he performed on, but by the lives he touched and the kindness he showed to others every day.
“I’m like in shock just like everybody else,” his brother said. “Erick, just know I love you, man.”
