Bay Minette, Alabama — A tragic crash in Alabama has claimed the life of an 18-year-old recent high school graduate who was on her way to begin the next chapter of her life at college.
Authorities say Rylie McGill, a recent graduate from Blount High School, died Tuesday morning while traveling to a college orientation session, leaving her family, friends and community devastated.
Crash Occurred on Interstate 65
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the crash happened at approximately 4:45 a.m. on June 2 along Interstate 65 in Baldwin County.
Investigators said the vehicle McGill was driving left the roadway and struck a tree roughly six miles north of Bay Minette.
Officials confirmed that hers was the only vehicle involved in the crash. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but McGill succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
Teen Was Headed to College Orientation
Family members told local media that McGill was traveling to orientation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham when the crash occurred.
The trip represented a major milestone for the recent graduate, who had just completed high school weeks earlier and was preparing to begin her college journey.
According to her mother, Kristin Carroll, McGill left home around 3:20 a.m., a little more than an hour before the crash.

Loved ones described McGill as a talented and ambitious young woman with clear goals for the future. According to her family, she had earned a full-ride scholarship to college and hoped to build a career in education.
“She had so many things that she wanted to do,” Carroll said.
Her mother explained that McGill had a passion for writing and dreamed of becoming a professor.
“To be a journalism professor,” Carroll said when describing her daughter’s career aspirations.
Family members said she was dedicated to helping others and was excited about the opportunities waiting for her at college.
Friends Remember Her Kindness
As news of her death spread, friends shared emotional tributes remembering the impact McGill had on those around her. Friend Zulma Molina described the teenager as “an incredible person,” according to local reports.
Another friend, Neveah Wilson, recalled how McGill consistently encouraged and supported people around her.
“She was just a great person to be around,” Wilson said. “She would really uplift anybody that was around her to do right.”
The comments reflected the admiration many people felt for McGill and the positive influence she had on friends, classmates and family members.
