Weekend Weather Alert: Heat Soars Across Maryland With Thunderstorms Possible After Sunset

Weekend Weather Alert Heat Soars Across Maryland With Thunderstorms Possible After Sunset

Baltimore, Maryland — Maryland residents should prepare for another stretch of summer-like weather as temperatures continue climbing through the weekend, with the hottest conditions expected on Saturday before storm chances arrive later in the day.

Forecasters say much of the state will experience hot and mostly sunny conditions before a cold front brings the possibility of scattered thunderstorms Saturday night.

Saturday Expected to Be the Hottest Day

The Baltimore metro area is forecast to experience the highest temperatures of the weekend on Saturday.

Afternoon highs are expected to reach the low to mid-90s, with abundant sunshine helping temperatures climb quickly throughout the day.

While humidity levels are expected to remain relatively manageable during the daytime hours, the combination of heat and strong sunshine could still make outdoor activities uncomfortable for extended periods.

Residents planning to spend time outdoors are encouraged to stay hydrated and take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned locations.

Storm Chances Increase Saturday Evening

Weather conditions are expected to change Saturday evening as humidity begins to increase ahead of an approaching cold front. Forecasters say scattered showers and thunderstorms could develop across portions of Maryland later in the day.

Not every community is expected to experience storms, but any storm that forms could produce gusty winds, brief heavy downpours and dangerous lightning.

The highest likelihood for storm activity is expected between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m.

While most outdoor events and weekend plans should be able to continue as scheduled, weather experts recommend monitoring local forecasts and staying alert for rapidly changing conditions.

Sunday Remains Warm Despite Cold Front

The cold front responsible for Saturday night’s scattered storms is expected to move south of the region by Sunday.

Even with the front passing through, temperatures are still expected to reach the 80s and lower 90s during the afternoon hours. A noticeable breeze may develop across parts of the state, helping provide some relief from the heat.

Overall, Sunday is expected to remain warm and relatively pleasant, although temperatures will continue running above seasonal averages in many locations.

Cooler Weather Arrives Early Next Week

After several days of above-average warmth, a brief period of more comfortable weather is expected to arrive on Monday and Tuesday.

Forecasters say afternoon temperatures will settle into the low to mid-80s, offering a welcome break from the weekend heat. Nighttime temperatures are also expected to become more comfortable, with lows dropping into the 50s and 60s.

The cooler conditions should create ideal weather for outdoor activities, commuting and recreation across much of the Baltimore region.

Heat Expected to Return Later Next Week

The cooler pattern is not expected to last long. Meteorologists are already tracking another surge of warmer air that could return to the region during the latter part of next week.

While exact temperatures remain uncertain, forecasts indicate another period of above-average heat may develop across Maryland before the week ends.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on changing forecasts as weather conditions continue evolving throughout the coming days.
