Rochelle Park, New Jersey — A New Jersey hobby shop owner is picking up the pieces after a brazen smash-and-grab robbery left his store missing tens of thousands of dollars worth of Pokémon cards.
Authorities are now searching for the suspects responsible after surveillance footage captured the entire theft unfolding in little more than a minute.
Surveillance Footage Captures Rapid Theft
According to reports, the robbery occurred at Big Pack Hobby Shop in Rochelle Park, where three suspects allegedly targeted a display containing highly valuable Pokémon cards.
Surveillance video reportedly shows the suspects, all dressed in black clothing, entering the store and immediately heading toward a specific display case near the register.
Within seconds, the group allegedly smashed the display and began grabbing collectible cards before quickly fleeing the scene.
Investigators said the entire incident lasted just 1 minute and 13 seconds, highlighting how quickly the suspects carried out the operation.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the individuals entered the store as customers before launching the theft.
Valuable Pokémon Cards Stolen
Store owner Pablo Rancier estimates the thieves made off with between $40,000 and $50,000 worth of Pokémon cards.
The stolen items reportedly included highly sought-after collectibles that can command significant prices among collectors and trading card enthusiasts.
The growing popularity of Pokémon cards has led to an increase in thefts targeting hobby stores and private collections in recent years as rare cards continue to rise in value.
For Rancier, the robbery was particularly painful because the store represents a long-held personal dream.
Owner Speaks Out After Devastating Loss
The theft happened just one day after the business celebrated a major milestone.
“This was like a dream of mine opening the card store, we just celebrated our three-year anniversary yesterday actually, this is a passion of mine, as much as it sucks and it could happen again, I’m just going to keep going because this is what I love,” Rancier told ABC7.
His comments reflected both the disappointment of the loss and his determination to continue operating despite the setback.
The emotional impact of the robbery has resonated with customers and fellow collectors who have rallied around the business in support.
Police Searching for Suspects
Law enforcement officials are now working to identify the suspects involved in the theft.
Authorities hope nearby license plate readers will provide clues about the small, dark-colored SUV reportedly used as the getaway vehicle.
Investigators continue reviewing surveillance footage and other evidence collected from the scene. No arrests have been announced, and police have not released descriptions beyond what was visible in the security video.

Despite the financial loss, Rancier says support from customers and community members has helped keep his spirits up. The store owner said he plans to replace damaged displays, restock inventory and continue serving collectors who visit the shop.
“Gotta stay positive, I could sit and mope and be angry, but I have tons of messages of support so it felt good, we’re going to try to restock and clean everything up and get new displays, and I’m gonna be back to serving everyone who wants to come in,” Rancier said.
For now, the focus remains on rebuilding the store and helping investigators locate those responsible for the theft.
