Miami, Florida — A woman who survived a brutal downtown Miami attack is speaking publicly about the terrifying moments she believed her life was about to end.
According to authorities, the violent assault occurred on May 19 outside a luxury residential tower in downtown Miami and left the victim with serious injuries requiring emergency surgery.
Woman Attacked While Walking Her Dog
Caitlin Dydzuhn, 36, said she had just left the MarinaBlue condominium tower at 888 Biscayne Boulevard and was walking her dog when the attack began.
Her attorney, Judd Rosen, said Dydzuhn was unexpectedly targeted by a stranger from behind.
According to police, the suspect was 49-year-old Raydean Johnson, a homeless man allegedly armed with a homemade weapon constructed from a tire pressure gauge and a nail.
Dydzuhn recalled the shocking moment she realized she was under attack.
“I started to see fists flying at me from, you know, my peripheral vision, like hooks,” Dydzuhn said, adding, “I realized, ‘Oh my God! This is a person attacking me!’”
Victim Says She Thought She Would Die
Authorities allege Johnson repeatedly punched Dydzuhn, slammed her head into the ground and stabbed her during the attack.
According to her attorney, the injuries were so severe that she was “seconds away” from being killed.
As the assault continued, Dydzuhn said survival became her only focus.
“In the moments where I was fighting for my life, it was like that was all I was focused on, was fighting for my life, trying to defend, you know, however I could, to try to block a death blow,” Dydzuhn said.
The attack left her fearing she would never make it home.
“I Made Peace” With Dying
During the terrifying ordeal, Dydzuhn said she reached a point where she believed she was going to die.
According to her attorney, security personnel at MarinaBlue did not intervene during the attack. Dydzuhn recalled lying on the ground and accepting what she thought would be her final moments.
“That’s one of the worst feelings,” Dydzuhn said after explaining she had “made peace” with dying while the assault continued.
Fortunately, a Good Samaritan stepped in and interrupted the attack before first responders arrived.
Emergency Surgery and Ongoing Recovery
Following the assault, Dydzuhn was rushed to a hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. The injuries have continued to impact her life weeks later.
She revealed that she has suffered vision problems since the attack and remains emotionally traumatized by what happened.

“I had to call my parents, and you know, break the news to them,” Dydzuhn said through tears.
Photographs taken after the attack showed visible bruising around her face and serious injuries to her eyes. She said she continues to struggle with both physical pain and recurring nightmares.
Suspect Faces Multiple Charges
Police eventually arrested Johnson after a standoff that shut down Biscayne Boulevard for approximately two hours.
Video recorded by a witness reportedly showed officers deploying Tasers before Johnson was taken into custody.
Authorities charged Johnson with attempted murder, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, criminal mischief while armed, resisting arrest with violence, and resisting arrest without violence.
In addition to the new charges, police said Johnson also faced several outstanding warrant cases involving allegations of probation violations, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief, and aggravated battery on a police officer.
He remains held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County.
