Prairieville, Louisiana — A Louisiana babysitter has been arrested following the tragic drowning death of a 3-year-old child at an in-home daycare, a case that authorities say unfolded in a backyard swimming pool while the child was under her supervision.

Toddler Drowned While Playing Outside
According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, the tragedy occurred on May 18 at an in-home daycare operated by 37-year-old Joann Johnson in Prairieville.
Investigators said two young children under Johnson’s care were playing in the backyard that afternoon.
Authorities stated the children were outside “without any safety wear” when the 3-year-old boy somehow entered the swimming pool and became submerged.
Police allege the child drowned while playing near the water, though investigators have not released additional details regarding how he gained access to the pool.
