~TV Show/Movie Recommendation~
The Series of Unfortunate Events
2019 – TV-PG – 3 seasons -Dark Comedy
This show manages to be morbid and dark while also being clean and entirely family-friendly. This series is adapted from the children’s book series created by an author under the pen name Lemony Snicket. The Series of Unfortunate Events is just as it is named; you follow the lives of three intelligent orphan children who have to face trials, tribulations, and an evil man who is out for their fortune.
A lot of mystery surrounds this show and it causes a lot of confusion, but eventually, in the end, everything becomes clear. Everything adds up and makes sense after you have more context. While this show can be extremely frustrating at times, it’s worth it. This show expresses the simple-mindedness, ineffectiveness, and inability of the adults to handle the situations that the Baudelaire children find themselves in. We meet and get to know multiple kind or neglectful guardians who all eventually come to a very unfortunate end.
They are unable to get the proper help that they desperately need. Not knowing who to trust, they can only rely on themselves, always watching each other’s backs. Regardless of all of this, the series has multiple heartwarming and funny scenes within it. This is the one show that I can safely say has no boring episodes. The average episode in this show ranges from 40 to 50 minutes and has at most 10 episodes in a season. The series feels long and has multiple immersive scenes which is why I like to rewatch the series because after I understand everything, going back to the beginning with your fresh set of eyes allows you to notice details you haven’t noticed before. Besides, while watching the series, it feels longer than it is, and most of which is forgettable.
